This Sunday's Lunch

We don't seem to get out of our little town too often.  Once the weekend rolls around there always seems so much to do, so little that can survive neglecting.  And now that we are almost mid-May and the garden still hasn't been planted, it feels wrong to ignore it one more day.  However, this past Sunday I couldn't imagine spending another day at home.

So we packed up the kids and headed out to the west coast.  One of the things that is awesome about living here is that in less than 2 hours we can be on the other side of the island, taking in the amazing scenery and if I look close enough, I can nearly see myself when I was 18, finishing the West Coast Trail, being ferried back to civilization, it's a little surreal really.

Now of course we go out there for the beach and for the getaway, but we also go for the food.  There is a little restaurant called the Coastal Kitchen Cafe and it is unreal.  It's a little place with gardens attached and a little house where the owners live, or at least I presume they do since I saw one taking her dog back to the house.

We have eaten here a few times and each time seems to be better than the last.  This Sunday Lunch however, consisted of a salmon burger (the best ever!) Halibut burger, steamed clam bucket and fish and chips for the kids.  Now you may be wondering why I would even bother to write about fish and chips.  I'll tell you why, not only was the fish super fresh but the tartar sauce was home made and it came in the perfect portion for kids.  You know I hate it when I order them food and the portions come so large you know who is finishing that plate and it's not them.  My cookie jar is full and doesn't need any extras if you know what I mean.  But these plates were perfect for them, and I was so happy to see that my kids ate everything.

Halibut Burger, I can't tell you how much I loved this
Salmon Burger, super yummy!

Clam bucket, sooo good!

The atmosphere is super homey, the staff is friendly and down to earth and you won't leave hungry.  Everything was super fresh and the seafood tasted like it had just been caught, which it very well may have been since the fishermen are all over this little town.  We rarely go out to eat in our town because there really isn't anywhere here that is good, healthy and affordable.  Well, there are a few places, but you can only go there so many times.  So it was such a treat to be able to go out for a good Sunday lunch that was everything we hoped it would be.  I highly recommend that you check this place out the next time you are in Port Renfrew, oh and the beaches are pretty amazing too.
